The obvious answer is that washing our face in the shower feels much less of a faff than standing at the sink. While both options can work well, cleansing our face at the sink does offer one major advantage and that’s better control when it comes to water temperature. We discussed the importance of this here, take a look it really does help to highlight why water temperature matters when it comes to skincare especially the face.
Terms like ‘Hot Cloth Cleanse’ can also be misleading and best avoided if your skin is prone to rosacea or easily irritated. If you must wash your face in the shower, and love a hot shower, make sure to drop the heat a little and turn it back up once you’ve finished.
One of the biggest frustrations with washing your face at the sink is the water that inevitably runs down your arms. This is where a face cloth comes in, using a face cloth to wipe away cleanser/make-up is just like using a wipe, but its way gentler on the skin and much kinder to the environment.
Another thing to note when showering, try to keep shampoo and conditioner away from the face. It is a little bit difficult to completely avoid this, but they can contain harsh ingredients and fragrances that can irritate the skin. If you do notice irritation around the face, often near or under the ears after showering, your hair products could be the culprit. Consider switching to a shampoo formulated for sensitive skin, and always wash your face after rinsing out your shampoo and conditioner to remove and residue.
